America’s bird zoo, the National Aviary is home to more than 800 birds representing 200 species, many of them endangered in the wild. The National Aviary’s large walk-through, indoor exhibits allow for up-close interactions between visitors and free-flying birds.
Daily programs offer many opportunities to hand-feed and meet species rarely found in zoos. Visitors can watch flamingos frolic, witness massive owls spread their wings, offer nectar treats to a flock of rainbow lorikeets, and talk with a pair of colorful toucans.
Come and see the Aviary's colony of penguins dive, swim and play in their new outdoor open-air exhibit, Penguin Point!
Coming in the Fall 2010: a new FliteZoneTM Theater in which birds will display remarkable natural behaviors as they fly over and stroll among seated guests. A rooftop Sky Deck will offer breathtaking views of birds of prey catching food tossed into the air.
Depending on your tour arrangements, please allow at least 90 minutes for the Aviary.
